From 2020, subdivided lots at the former Wanneroo Primary School site will be transformed into residential developments that will provide quality homes in safe, inclusive neighbourhoods.
The Department of Communities acquired the Shaw Road site via the Property Asset Clearing House in May 2014. This created a subdivision of seven residential lots and a small park called Hastings Park, with the development renamed Hastings Quarter.
The 1.134 hectare residential development will provide homebuyers with easy access to schools, retail and employment services and public transport.
Through various procurement processes and the Medium Density Development Panel, Communities will develop medium density residential housing across selected lots as part of its commitment to the State Government’s Affordable Housing Action Plan.
The first two lots will be developed in stages, with construction on the first lot of apartments at Shaw Road and townhouses at Principal Street commencing in the second quarter of 2020. The remaining lot releases and construction dates are expected to be rolled out over the next five to seven years.
Communities will build 100 high quality, affordable terraces, townhouses and low-rise apartments that will provide greater choice in housing diversity in the suburb of Wanneroo, which traditionally is represented by larger lots with single level housing.
Once completed, dwellings in Hastings Quarter will be available for sale via the Opening Doors program, with a portion set aside as shared equity and social housing to enable more people to afford to have a place to call home.
