The Department of Communities is partnering with Peet Limited to deliver a vibrant new affordable apartment development into Pier Street (Lot 52).
Pier Street has been identified in the METRONET Social and Affordable Housing and Jobs Package Business Case as a Stream 1 site.
The METRONET package was announced in the 2018-19 State Budget as a $394 million program over four years and is aimed at generating economic activity and local jobs by investing in social housing, redevelopment and transit oriented developments.
Stream 1 includes eight high density transit oriented developments within new METRONET or existing heritage line station precincts.
The Pier Street development is set to add diversity to the local area and will help to give Western Australians better access to affordable housing close to where they work and play.
What is proposed?
A 20-storey development with 146 apartments is currently proposed for the site, which has excellent transport links within the emerging eastern end of the Perth CBD.
The development will trial the latest innovative initiatives such as a car share service for residents and the local community, powered parking bays and a communal garden in the roof space.
Construction is set to start around mid-2020, with completion expected in 2022.
