With diversity and wellbeing the hallmarks of active urban life, Connect Joondalup will link people and place to grow a lively centre where community will thrive.
The Connect Joondalup project provides a new avenue for the Department of Communities to address housing choice and affordability within the City of Joondalup and Perth’s northern metropolitan corridor.
About the project site
The Connect Joondalup site is located within the City and suburb of Joondalup, approximately 28 kilometres north of the Perth Central Business District, and lies within the Joondalup Activity Centre – a thriving major satellite city of Perth that is expected to welcome a population of up to 20,000 residents by 2050.
It is adjacent to the Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre – one of the largest shopping complexes in WA. The HBF Arena sporting complex and Lake Joondalup Baptist College are situated to the west and a significant medium-density housing and mixed-use precinct lies to the east.
The Joondalup Train Station and bus terminus are within 800 metres, while the Mitchell Freeway – one kilometre west of the site – and major arterial roads including Joondalup Drive, Ocean Reef Road, Burns Beach Road and Wanneroo Road, offer great connectivity to the major centres of Wanneroo and Perth city.
The Department of Communities sought a development partner for the Connect Joondalup project through The Precincts invitation for Expressions of Interest (EOI), launched in May 2018.
No suitable developer was identified through the procurement process, which was finalised in September 2019. Communities has since been planning for the delivery of the project in the absence of a private sector partner.
