Investment and Business Opportunities

In February 2009, the State and Federal Governments injected a significant amount of funding to increase social housing and affordable housing in Perth and regional Western Australia. This funding was an attempt to stimulate the construction industry in response to the global financial crisis.

With this funding, the Department of Housing announced a series of innovative approaches to the procurement of social and affordable housing, including an expression of interest (EOI) process for development proposals and a number of site specific Requests for Proposals (RFP).

With the launch of the State’s new Affordable Housing Strategy - Opening Doors 2010-2020 in May 2011 the Department now has an expanded role and objectives in providing social and affordable housing.

Our goal is to provide at least 20,000 affordable housing opportunities by 2020.

We want to help low to moderate income earners who are struggling in the private rental market, unable to get into home ownership and/or trapped in the social housing system because of a lack of affordable alternatives.

The Department will use the EOI and RFP processes and a range of contractual arrangements to engage actively with the private sector in an effort to increase the supply and diversity of affordable and social housing.

We are on the lookout for innovative and cost-effective affordable and social housing opportunities from the property development and construction industry.

With this partnership approach we can deliver superior housing outcomes for the community and better 'value for money' for the Department.
