Situated on the former Manjimup Primary School site at Lot 319 Moore Street, the vision for the Manjimup Seniors Living Project is to enable Manjimup seniors to age in their community by providing affordable, age-friendly housing options close to services and amenity. Allowing this group to age in place will in turn support the local community through social connectivity and activity in the region.
The seniors housing development – officially titled Cherry Glades – is being delivered by the Department of Communities (Communities) in partnership with the Shire of Manjimup, with support from the State Government’s Royalties for Regions Program and the South West Development Commission. Approximately 50-60 affordable dwellings are anticipated to be delivered across five stages and will include rental and home ownership opportunities.
When it’s complete, Cherry Glades will be a safe and lively place for people over the age of 55, with a range of appropriate and affordable housing choices in different sizes and styles that are high quality, age friendly, secure and easy to maintain. Residents will be able to age well in their community, close to family and friends, while enjoying a relaxed and active lifestyle in a vibrant setting right next to the town’s amenities – including the library, community centre, recreational facilities, medical services, shops and cafes.
Unique naming opportunity
In early 2018, Communities and the Shire held a unique competition for Shire residents to name the proposed estate. The name Cherry Glades was chosen, as submitted by local resident Glenys Cope who said she envisaged the estate streets lined with cherry trees to reflect Manjimup's claim to cherry fame as well as residents enjoying the tranquility of the glades (or open space between the surrounding forests).
Stage 1A development
Pindan Constructions Pty Ltd has been selected to construct Stage 1A of the development which includes nine new dwellings (six 3 bed 2 bath, and three 2 bed 2 bath) built to a minimum Silver Level Livable Housing Design and with generous verandas and materials that keep with the character of Manjimup.
Stage 1A will offer a mix of full market and shared equity sales, with rental options to follow in subsequent stages.
Indicative project timeline
- Civil works are underway on site and will finish in March 2019.
- Following the completion of civil works, Stage 1A construction will begin early 2019, with completion expected in third quarter 2019.
- The timeline for subsequent stages will depend on market demand and sale uptake of Stage1A.
