The National Partnership Agreement on Remote Indigenous Housing seeks to address:
- Significant overcrowding
- Homelessness
- Poor housing conditions
- Severe housing shortages in remote Indigenous communities.
Improving housing conditions is fundamental to achieving improvements in Indigenous health, education and employment.
Improvements in housing will make a major contribution towards closing the gap in Indigenous disadvantage.
In 2010–11 the Housing Authority delivered 84 new houses and refurbished a further 271.
We exceeded the target of 20 per cent local Aboriginal training and employment in the work carried out.
