Changes to our legislation 2010
Aboriginal Housing Legislation Amendment Act 2010
This Amendment Act, which came into operation on 1 July 2010, amended the Housing Act 1980 and the Aboriginal Affairs Planning Authority Act 1972 to give the Housing Authority the power to:
- Provide housing-related services to remote Aboriginal communities in WA
- Enter into a broader range of joint venture arrangements
- Develop and manage any land (with the agreement of the landowner), not just land it owns.
Housing Societies Repeal Act 2005
This Repeal Act arranged for the winding up and cessation of housing societies, and for the subsequent repeal of the Housing Societies Act 1976 and the Housing Loan Guarantee Act 1957.
Parts 1 (‘Preliminary’) and 2 (‘Winding up of societies’) of the Repeal Act commenced operation on 5 October 2005, enabling the liquidation of the two remaining housing societies - Western Homebuyers Housing Society and Westland Housing Society.
Part 3 of the Repeal Act provides for the repeal of the Housing Societies Act 1976 and the Housing Loan Guarantee Act 1957, and makes minor consequential amendments to 12 other Acts. Following the liquidation of the above two housing societies, Part 3 was brought into operation on 10 July 2010.
