Communities staff inspire Derby students

24 August 2017

Department of Communities team members attended Derby High School’s Transition Pathways Youth Expo recently to chat with students about their career aspirations.

More than 50 students from years 10 to 12 spent the day attending interactive workshops and learning more about post-school opportunities in the region. Department of Communities staff from the Broome and Derby offices were on hand to highlight potential career pathways including roles as receptionists, social workers and housing and property officers.

Universities, employers and agencies working with youth were also there to share information, as was special guest former West Coast Eagle Andrew Embley, who addressed the school and encouraged students to follow their passions.

The Expo was the first collaborative event public event attended by the newly-formed Department since the amalgamation in July.
