GROH Eligibility

The Department of Housing provides accommodation for Government employees under its Government Regional Officers’ Housing (GROH) Program. Eligibility is determined by the conditions stipulated in the GROH Eligibility Policy, which include:
  • The applicant / tenant must be employed by a government agency that is proclaimed under the Government Employee Housing Act 1964
  • The applicant / tenant must not be recruited locally, and
  • The applicant / tenant and their partner must not own a property within 50km of their place of employment, in which they could reasonably reside.
Other eligibility conditions can be set at the discretion of the employing agency. For example, the agency may limit the eligibility for GROH housing to positions over a certain level. In addition, the agency determines the size of property that will be provided for singles, couples and families.

If your situation changes (e.g. you cease employment with the agency, or you purchase a property in the town) please notify your agency’s housing representative and the local Department of Housing office. Your eligibility for GROH housing will be reviewed and action will be taken accordingly.
