Premier Mark McGowan announced increases to Keystart's home loan income limits to help more Western Australians achieve the dream of home ownership.

Home ownership is now within reach for around 11,000 more Western Australian households following the broadening of eligibility for Keystart home loans.

An initiative of the Western Australian Government, Keystart was established in 1989 to provide low-deposit home loans to Western Australians unable to meet the deposit requirements of mainstream lenders.

Premier Mark McGowan announced that Keystart’s income eligibility limits will increase by $15,000 for singles and couples and $20,000 for families from 1 July to 31 December 2019, enabling many more Western Australians to purchase their own home.

“My Government wants to help as many Western Australians as possible achieve the dream of home ownership,” Mr McGowan said.

“Keystart is one of WA's great success stories in housing affordability and it continues to help people become home owners where otherwise that might not be possible.”

Keystart home loans are designed to help people get into home ownership earlier by lowering the associated entry costs. Properties valued at up to $480,000 require a deposit from as low as 2 per cent, with no lender’s mortgage insurance or saving history required.

A range of eligible properties are available through the Department of Communities’ Opening Doors program. Visit openingdoorswa.com.au/finance to find out more.

Keystart will accept applications using the higher income limits from 1 May 2019 to give consumers confidence they can begin their search for a home knowing what they may be eligible to borrow. The sales contract must settle after 1 July 2019.

The income limits will revert to the current levels from 1 January 2020.

*Applies to Keystart’s full ownership home loan products only.
