Pier Street is set to become home to a vibrant new affordable apartment development, bringing 146 apartments and a new commercial space into the heart of Perth.
As recently announced, Peet Limited were selected as the development partner for the Department of Communities’ site at the northern portion of Lot 52 Pier Street, Perth—a short walk from McIver train station and the Perth Cultural Centre.
The 20-storey development will feature a mix of high-quality apartments with approximately 15 per cent for sale through the Opening Doors shared equity program, 15 per cent allocated for social housing, and 70 per cent for private sale.
Department of Communities Assistant Director General Greg Cash said that Peet was selected for their ability to achieve the Government’s vision to help transform the housing market in Perth, and specifically the emerging eastern end of the CBD, through the delivery of more affordable developments around key transit precincts and activity centres.
“We’re expecting the Pier Street apartment development to be home to around 300 people, which will help to bring more life, vibrancy and activity into the CBD and surrounds.”
The Department of Communities has a strong history of working with Peet and other private developers to trial the latest innovations in the design and construction sector.
“Several initiatives are proposed for the Pier Street project including a car share service for residents, and the installation of powered parking bays,” said Mr Cash.
Developments such as Pier Street are an important part of the Government’s Affordable Housing Action Plan which is designed to give the people of Western Australia better access to affordable housing close to where they work and play.
The total cost of the development is expected to be $45 million, which includes the value of the land provided by the Department of Communities.
Subject to approval timeframes, civil works at Lot 52 Pier Street are due to start in October 2020 and completion of the apartments is expected in late 2022.
